BULLARD — The Bullard Panthers scored twice in the final 4:13 of the contest to turn a 10-point deficit into a three-point victory on Friday, rallying past the Spring Hill Panthers, 20-17.
Spring Hill drops to 0-2 with the loss, while Bullard improves to 1-1.
Spring Hill got on the board first when Daryn Beck scored on a 20-yard run and Ephren Barcenas booted the extra point for a 7-0 lead with just 43 seconds left in the opening frame.
Bullard tied things early in the second quarter on a 50-yard run by Reese Ricketts. Zachary VanWinkle added the PAT with 11:22 to play to knot the score at 7-7, and it stayed that way until halftime.
A 43-yard field goal by Barcenas with 9:59 left in the third came after Spring Hill marched 44 yards in five plays following a recovery on the opening kickoff.
Spring Hill added to the lead with 6:58 to play in the third, moving 54 yards in four plays and making it a 17-7 contest when Gage White tossed a 13-yard TD pass to Zach Henry.
A 10-yard touchdown pass from Garrett Esposito to Landry Lassiter capped a 69-yard, eight-play drive for Bullard with 4:13 to play to pull the homestanding Panthers close, and Latriz Young later recovered a fumble for Bullard to set up the game-winning drive.
Young’s recovery came with 1:13 to play at the Spring Hill 46, and Bullard scored with 27 seconds remaining on a 7-yard pass from Esposito to Lassiter.
Beck finished with 25 carries for 112 yards in the loss for Spring Hill, which will host White Oak next Friday.
White completed 10 of 16 passes for 91 yards.
