Chris Martin scored a pair of second-half touchdowns, helping Silsbee pull away in a close game and earn a 21-6 win over the Spring Hill Panthers on Friday at Panther Stadium.

The loss spoiled homecoming for Spring Hill, dropping the Panthers to 2-4 on the season heading into next week’s District 6-4A Division II opener at home against Gilmer.

Silsbee improves its season record to 3-3 with the victory.

After a scoreless first quarter, Silsbee got on the board late in the second frame with a 30-yard touchdown pass from Raymond Foster to Aaron Sells. The extra point by Diego Gonzalez gave the Tigers a 7-0 lead.

Spring Hill countered with a 27-yard field goal by Efren Barcenas with just 13 seconds left in the half, and the Panthers trailed 7-3 at the break.

Silsbee drove 68 yards in just three plays on the opening possession of the second half, scoring on a 45-yard run by Martin. The PAT by Gonzalez with 10:48 to play put the Tigers in front 14-3, but Spring Hill answered quickly.

Zach Henry returned the ensuing kickoff 33 yards to set up an 8-play, 59-yard drive by the Panthers that ended with another field goal by Barcenas — this one from 29-yards away — to make it a 14-6 contest with 6:46 left in the third.

Silsbee scored on a 29-yard run by Martin with 8:51 remaining in the contest to put the game away.
