Game Recap

The Spring Hill Panthers JV football team squared off against the Gladewater Bears on Thursday night at 7pm. The Panther offense took the field first and had an impressive scoring drive orchestrated by Ethan Tidwell and capped off by Brady Powers rushing touchdown. The Panthers defense answered the offense with their own score as Connor Duffey picked off the Gladewater quarterback and returned it 80 yards for a touchdown. Luke Guarisco added to the impressive defensive performance with his own interception the following drive to give the ball back to the offense in great field position. Spring Hill’s Ethan Tidwell kept his foot on the gas with a rushing touchdown two plays later. Midway through the second quarter Carson Manasse stripped Gladewater and the Panthers defense fell on the ball to give it back to their offense. A few miskeys caused the Panther offense to turn the ball back over to Gladewater with one minute left in the half. The Bears were able to grind the ball down to the Spring Hill’s three yard line with just seconds left in the half. Owen Kuenemann with a host of Panthers stiffened their necks and shut the Bears out of the endzone with no time left of the clock before halftime.

The second half was much like the first with impressive efforts on both sides of the ball for the Panthers. The Panther defense led by Exavier Hinton and Cam Owens made if very difficult for Gladewater to get anything going on offense. Brady Powers increased the Panther lead to 27-0 with a late 3rd quarter rushing touchdown. The Panthers defense had a few mental errors and gave up a quick score on the following drive to give the Bears their first and only score of the night. Ethan Tidwell quickly responded in the fourth quarter with a 25 yard passing touchdown to Cam Owens to end the game. The final score was 34-6 Spring Hill. With this first district win by the Panthers, they are now 5-1 on the season. The Spring Hill Panthers will play the Pittsburg Pirates next Thursday at 6:30 in Pittsburg.

Game Recap

The Spring Hill 9th grade team opened up their district schedule by hosting the Gladewater Bears at Panther Stadium. The Panthers took the opening kickoff and established their run game with Nick Stewart. However, after getting a couple of first downs, Stewart coughed the ball up and the Bears started around their 30 yard line. The Panther defense stopped the Bears and Gladewater turned the ball over on downs. Unfortunately, Spring Hill failed to convert on a pass attempt from Carter Dixon to Grant Fisher and Gladewater assumed possession on downs. The Bears were able to find a crease in the Panther defense and scored on a 63 yard run. The 2 point conversion was good and the Bears took an early 8-0 lead.

Spring Hill failed to move the ball and was forced to punt. The Bears fumbled to punt return and Curtis Crowe fell on the loose ball for the Panthers. The first quarter ended on a big run by Brody Barnhill to get inside the Gladewater 15 yard line. Michael Marrs then scored on the second play of the second quarter as he scored from 8 yards out. The 2 point conversion failed and the score became 8-6 Gladewater.

The following possession started for Gladewater at their own 33, where they were able to take the ball around the left side and score their second TD of the game. The conversion attempt failed as Brody Barnhill stopped the runner in the backfield. The Panthers offense had troubles as the ball was given back to Gladewater on an ensuing fumble. The defense returned the favor as Carson Barnhill and Tavion Sterling combined to swarm the Bear runner and cause a fumble. Nick Stewart then had a big run around the left side to the Gladewater 15 yard line. Marrs was able to get the ball inside of the 10 yard line, but a penalty and an incompletion on 4th down ended the drive. The Panther defense was up to the challenge and a big tackle by Brody Barnhill forced a Gladewater punt. With time ticking away, Spring Hill used completions from Dixon to Jake Couch and Corvin Withrow to move the ball into Bear territory. A final desperation pass fell incomplete as the clock ran out for halftime with Gladewater holding on to their lead 14-6.

The Spring Hill defense started the third quarter with a much tougher stand, forcing a turnover on downs at midfield. The Panther offense was unable to take advantage of the field position and punted the ball back to Gladewater. However, Eli Bartel tipped a Gladewater pass attempt and the ball was intercepted by Carson Barnhill to end the 3rd quarter with the score unchanged.

Michael Marrs started the final period with a run that would not be denied from 17 yards out for his second TD of the game. Stewart converted the 2 point try and the score was tied at 14. Gladewater then drove the field and ate up most of the time, scoring the winning TD and 2 point conversion with under 2:00 left in the game. The Panthers made a valiant attempt to score, but penalties and little time were too much. Spring Hill fell in defeat 22-14. Their record is now 4-1-1.

The Panthers will travel to Pittsburg next Thursday for their match up with the Pirates. The game kicks off at 5 pm.

Game Recap

Monday the Lady Panthers took on Chapel Hill on their home court. After a long weekend, with no school Friday or Monday, but a tournament on Saturday, the girls were ready to play and get the win.

The first set was a close one for The Lady Panthers. The girls held the lead for the match until a 7 point service streak by Chapel Hill. Due to errors on passing, the ladies fell behind and had to fight to get the lead back. Several girls stepped up to get the job done for the team. Getting the girls back in the game with her serves was Dina Zeid with great defense by Sidney Ochoa.

For the second set, the girls fell behind due to serving errors. Strong defense and passing from several of the girls helped them to tie the game-Sidney Ochoa, Adisyn Chism, Kaylan Jones, and Natalie Fisher. With the score 22 for both sides, Amirah Alexander stepped up to the serving line to help push the last three points for the win.

There has been such improvement from the girls, individually and as a team. Coach Young is proud of how far they have come, and the hard work they are still showing.

Their next game will be on Monday, October 16 at Kilgore. Come out and support them!

Game Recap

Monday the Lady Panthers took on Chapel Hill on their home court. After a long weekend, with no school Friday or Monday, but a tournament on Saturday, the girls were ready to play and get the win.

The girls had a slow start for the first game due to missed serves. Defense kept them in the game, but it wasn’t enough for the win in the first set. For the second set, the game was a started out close, but many girls stepped up to get service points and the eventual lead. Pushing the girls ahead for the win was Meralis Machuca who had six service points, most of them aces, in a row.

There has been such improvement from the girls, individually and as a team. Coach Young is proud of how far they have come, and the hard work they are still showing.

Their next game will be on Monday, October 16 at Kilgore. Come out and support them!
