Leading the team in points was Erin Gregson with 5. Haleigh Yoder, Zailey McGee, Madison Schreiber, and Kylie Hinson each had a bucket.

The girls next game will be the Monday after Thanksgiving break at Gladewater at 4:30. Come out and support your Lady Panthers.

Game Recap

ATLANTA — Andrew Samples blasted in from six yards out with 1:17 left in regulation to vault the Atlanta Rabbits to a 56-49 come-from-behind playoff-clinching victory over the Spring Hill Panthers here Friday night.

Samples, who finished the night with 165 yards on 24 carries and four touchdowns, gave Atlanta its only lead of the night when he stomped into the end zone after Spring Hill had turned the ball over on downs.

Atlanta, which improves to 2-3 in league play and 5-5 overall, qualifies for the fourth and final playoff spot in District 7-4A DII and will play Jasper at a site and time to be determined. Spring Hill, coming into the game needing to win by 11 in order to gain a postseason invite, closes out the year 0-5 in district and 5-5 overall.

Not only did Samples prove efficient on the ground, he also completed 9 of 17 passes for 306 yards and four touchdowns. His 80-yard strike to Austin Brown with 7:53 left in the third cut the deficit to 35-42.

This score came on the heels of Daryn Beck’s 6-yard TD trot for the Panthers to make it 42-28 with 7:59 showing in the third.

The Rabbits had spotted the Panthers a 21-0 lead and had to play catch up much of the second half. Spring Hill’s Kiante Stoker was a true warrior in defeat, finishing with 241 yards on 20 carries and TD runs of 1, 45 and 59.

Beck also eclipsed the 100-yard mark for Spring Hill with 114 yards on 16 touches his one TD.

Brown proved to be human dynamite for the Rabbits as he pulled in four passes totaling 189 yards and TDs of 45, 48 and 80 yards.

The Panthers posted a pair of first quarter scores to ease out to a 14-0 lead. Beck’s 25-yard sprint set the table for Spring Hill’s initial tally when Gage White executed a 21-yard play-action rollout to Beck with 5:57 left in the period.

Vaughn Bufkin came up with a Dra Nelson fumble on the ensuing kickoff to set the Panthers up in great shape at the Atlanta 41. Dayson Adaway pulled in a beautiful 35-yard rainbow from White on first down.

Stoker barged in from a yard out at 5:12 to cap the three-play drive. Efren Barcenas split the posts on the point after to make it 14-0.

Spring Hill’s defense thwarted Atlanta’s offense on downs to set in motion the next Panther points when Stoker made a scintillating 45-yard dash for cash less than 30 seconds into the second quarter. Barcenas was true on the PAT and Spring Hill looked to be in firm command with a 21-0 lead.

The Rabbits finally responded with a methodic 12-play, 72-yard expedition that culminated with Andrew Samples scoring on 4-yard quarterback keeper at 6:45.

Undaunted by Atlanta’s extended drive, the Panthers answered quickly when White found Ryan Willis for 38 yards on a skinny post at 3:42.

The Rabbits tacked on a pair of scores before the break and quickly changed the game’s complexion. Spring Hill looked to be in control with a 21-point advantage, but Atlanta got a 48-yard TD pass from Samples to Austin Brown with 1:49.

Spring Hill was not content with a two-score halftime lead and went to the airways. Nick Washington picked a White pass and set the table for a late Atlanta score. Samples slipped in from six yards out as the clock drained down.

Fernando Campos, who was three for three on point afters in the half, drilled the subsequent kick to make it 28-21 at the half.

Game Recap

Atlanta traveled to Panther Stadium to take on Spring Hill in the season finale for both teams. Atlanta received the opening kick and found success against the Panther defense. The Rabbits were first on the scoreboard after they completed a 34 yard pass. Carson Barnhill intercepted the pass on the conversion attempt but wasn’t able to return it for the score.

The Panther offense found the early moments of the game to be tough as they worked to find holes in the Rabbit defense. Colin Martin punted to ball back to Atlanta. After tremendous defensive plays by Aaron Collier, Grant Fisher, and Brody Barnhill, the Rabbits were able to convert for a first down, and eventually scored on a 38 yard run. The conversion attempt for two point was good, and the lead increased to 14-0 in favor of Atlanta.

Brody Barnhill took the kickoff return for Spring Hill, and using a beautiful stiff-arm move, ran the ball to the Atlanta 48 yard line. Nick Stewart then had four hard runs to move the ball deep into Atlanta territory as the first quarter ended. Carter Dixon was able to eventually punch the ball across the goal line and get Spring Hill on the scoreboard. Fisher kicked the PAT through and the score was cut in half at 14-7.

Atlanta scored on their next possession, as they completed a half-back pass from 21 yards out. The Panther defense stopped the two point attempt, making the score 20-7. The Panther offense just couldn’t find traction and the Rabbits regained possession at midfield following a failed fake punt attempt. A tackle for loss by Brody Barnhill and a near interception by Carson Barnhill put Atlanta in a long yardage situation. The Panther defense swarmed and forced a turnover on downs. Michael Marrs was able to run the ball from the Rabbit 30 to the 6 yard line, scoring on the next play. The Fisher kick was no good and the score read Atlanta 20 and Spring Hill 13. The Rabbits didn’t wait too long to answer as they took the next offensive play around the right side for a 77 yard scoring run. Curtis Crowe broke up the conversion attempt, and Atlanta led 26-13 at the half.

Dixon ran the ball 33 yards on the first play of the second half to the Atlanta 26. Marrs then scored on the next play for the Panther score. The PAT attempt was no good, and the score moved to 26-19. The Panther defense again made the necessary plays as Collier had a tackle for loss and Marrs tackled the runner short on 4th down. A big run by DIxon moved the ball from the 30 yard line to the 13. Dixon then carried the ball down the the 2 yard line, scoring on the next play. Marrs converted the 2 point run, and Spring Hill took the lead 27-26.

On the ensuing kickoff, Spring Hill was able to come up with a loose ball and regain possession on the Atlanta 25 yard line. Dixon’s pass attempt was intercepted by Atlanta and the Rabbits took over on their own 17. Brody Barnhill again made a big play and stopped the Rabbits for a loss, giving the ball back to the Panthers on the Atlanta 15 yard line. Marrs was able to score from 8 yards out for another Panther TD. Dixon fell short on the conversion attempt and the score became 33-26 for Spring Hill.

The Panthers offense kept the ball on the ground and ate up a solid portion of the 4th period clock. Bryan Vaca intercepted a desperate Rabbit pass that sealed the victory for the Panthers. The team finished with a 7-2-1 record.

We congratulate these young men on a successful season and look forward to great things in the future.

Game Recap

Due to Pleasant Grove only have one subvarsity team, the 9th grade Panthers traveled to Texarkana to take on a different opponent, the Tigers of Texas High. The opponent didn’t matter to the Panthers as they started with some big offensive plays early. Nick Stewart had a 10 yard run to open the Panther’s first possession. QB Carter Dixon followed with a 20 yard run of his own. Michael Marrs also had a 20 yard run into the end zone for the Panther score. Grant Fisher kicked the PAT through and the lead was a quick 7-0 for Spring Hill.

On the second defensive play, Marrs was able to scoop up a Tiger fumble and return it for another Spring Hill score from 25 yards out. Fisher converted the extra point, and the Panthers were out to a quick 14-0 lead before Texas High could blink. The Tigers managed to find some offense and move the ball out to midfield, but Tavion Sterling had a stop for a loss of yardage. On third down, Brody Barnhill sacked the Tiger QB to force a 4th down as the quarter ended.

The Panther defense stopped the Tigers on the ensuing 4th down and took over possession of the ball. A long run by Stewart was called back on a penalty. The Panthers went for it on 4th down, but the ball was fumbled and Texas High was able to pick the ball up and return it for a TD. The 2 point conversion attempt failed and the Panthers led 14-6. Game Recap

Unfortunately, the Lady Panthers were unable to pull out the win for their last game of the season. The girls struggled with their serve for both sets and on serve receive due to tough serves by the Lady Buckeyes. During the second set, serves from Ke’asya Anderson helped to bring the girls back into the game, before Gilmer went on a serving streak.

Even though we did not get the outcome we wanted, Coach Young is very proud of the improvement she has seen this season. They have improved by leaps and bounds. She can’t wait to see the girls come back next year and be even more successful.
