For the first three innings of the game, the Panther softball team worked like a well-oiled machine. In the bottom of the first inning, Jade Bowden launched a bomb over the center-field fence for a quick 2-0 lead. Sam Schott was working hard in the circle and the defense was playing well behind her in the field.
But the fourth inning turned in favor of the visiting Eagles from Harmony. After giving up a solo home run, Schott was able to get pop ups from the next two batters. However, errors by the defense allowed those runners to get on base. The next batter doubled and scored the runners to take the lead.
Schott took the loss in the circle. She pitched 4 2/3 innings, giving up five hits, seven runs (1 earned), walking one, and striking out four. Sadie Sparks pitched 2 1/3 innings, giving up three hits, two runs (0 earned), and striking out two.
Schott had two hits on the night to lead Spring Hill. Kaycee Campbell and Paige Wilstead also had hits for the Panthers.
Spring Hill (3-5) will travel to play Sabine on Friday.
