The Panther softball team held off the Liberty-Eylau Leopards for the first half of the game to open the Longview Lobo Tournament on Thursday morning. LE opened the scoring in the top of the first with a run on a Panther error. However, Sam Schott evened the score with one swing Schott took the first pitch that she saw and deposited it over the left field fence. The Panthers added another run and held the 2-1 lead through the first three innings.
Unfortunately, things began to change in the fourth inning Leopards were able to string together four runs on a combination of hits and Spring Hill defensive errors. Avery Mercer hit a single in the Spring Hill fifth, but the time expired for the game.
Sadie Sparks worked in the circle for Spring Hill for the first five innings. She allowed five runs (two earned) on five hits, walked two batters and struck out three in the loss. Rachel Doss worked in relief, allowing three runs on two hits and a walk.
