Panthers News · ET Boys Basketball: Spring Hill tops John Tyler, 1-0

■ SPRING HILL 64, JOHN TYLER 44: TYLER — TYLER—Spring Hill’s Tyler Caron produced a portfolio of dunks as part of a 64-44 win for the Panthers over John Tyler Friday in their season opener.

The game was played at Boulter Middle School because of the ongoing construction at John Tyler High School.

Caron was held scoreless in the first period, but made his presence known midway through the second when he skied over everyone to throw down a dunk on a rebound. He followed that by going coast-to-coast and powering a two-handed slam. And just to show he wasn’t only offensive-minded, Caron stopped JT’s answer to his two highlight plays by taking a charge.

It was part of a 12-0 run that put the Panthers (1-0) in front to stay.

Caron had another dunk in the third period as Spring Hill pushed out to 44-24.

He was not finished. In the final minutes, after JT had cut the lead to 48-35, Caron drove through the lane and jammed it home despite also being fouled on the play. He converted the three-point play. After a 3-pointer from Kyren Miller made it 56-35, Caron got free in transition and hammered home a one-handed stuff that would’ve made Doctor J proud, cocking the ball behind his head before bringing it down.

It was the last of his game-high 21 points. Casey Mudoh (18) and Miller (11) also finished in double figures for the Panthers. Jyzaiah Rockwell had a solid start to his High School basketball career with 5 steals, 2 assists and 9 points.

John Tyler was paced in the loss by 15 from Darry Moore and 10 from Richard Powell.
