Boys Freshman Football · SH Sub-Varsity White Falls to White Oak

The SH Panther sub-Varsity traveled to White Oak to take on the Roughnecks on Thursday afternoon. The Panthers opened the game kicking off to White Oak. After driving the ball into Spring Hill territory, the Panther D held strong and forced the Roughnecks to turn the ball over on downs. QB Grayson Crews carried the ball for a 15 yard gain on the Panthers’ first play from scrimmage. Unfortunately, a few plays later the offense fumbled to ball and White Oak was able to recover. The Panther defense scratched and clawed, but the White Oak offense was able to find the endzone eventually. The 2 point conversion attempt was successful and White Oak jumped out to a 8-0 lead. An attempted onside kick was botched by the Roughnecks, and the Panther offense started with positive field position. Spring Hill was unable to take advantage and turned the ball over on downs.

The score remained 8-0 for most of the second quarter, with each team unsuccessful in efforts to move the ball. Favour Otujor helped the Panthers with an interception of a Roughneck pass, but Spring Hill wasn’t able to take advantage. Brennan Ferguson was on the receiving end of a couple of Crews’ passes, but the Panthers were unable to string together a scoring drive. With just a couple of minutes left in the first half, White Oak was able to get the ball across the goalline and convert the 2 point play for a 16-0 halftime lead.

Jordan Jones had a nice 12 yard carry for the Panthers as they started the 2nd half of play, but the White Oak defense held once more and the Panthers had to give the ball back. The third quarter saw both defenses rise to the occasion and stop any drive attempts by either offense. The scoring drought was ended as White Oak was able to overcome a valiant stand by the Panthers at the goalline. With time running out in the game, Crews went to the air and found James Henry Thomas for a 20 yard gain into White Oak’s side of the field. In a final attempt to score, Crews found Ferguson in the Roughneck endzone for a 40 yard TD pass as the buzzer sounded. Jones pushed the ball across on the 2 point conversion, making the final score 22-8 in favor of the host Roughnecks.

The White team (1-2) will host Rusk for their next game on Thursday, September 20. Kickoff is set for 5:00.
