Spring Hill watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 7-3 loss to Gladewater on Thursday. The Bears scored on a dropped third strike allowing the runner to advance and get on base. A double followed, scoring the runner, and putting Gladewater up early.
Gladewater was able to extend their lead in the third inning with a homerun and another runner scoring on an error. Ashlee Blake started the bottom of the inning with a triple, but was unable to score for the Panthers. Sydney Johnson and Jayla Landrum each walked to start the next home inning. Lacey White doubled to score Kayla Crowe, who was running for Johnson.
Spring Hill scored again in the fifth inning when Johnson singled sharply to center field, scoring Caton Hawkins, who had walked earlier in the inning. Johnson then scored on a Landrum triple, to set the score at 7-3 Gladewater.
Maddie Malloy and Kaylin McWhorter each added a base hit for Spring Hill. McWhorter took the pitching loss, surrendering seven runs in seven innings, eight hits, striking out three, and walking one.
The Panthers travel to Tyler to take on Chapel Hill today at 6:30 pm. The JV game will start at 5 pm.
The JV Panthers defeated Gladewater 15-2. Kristen Stewart had the big hit that broke the game open. Harleigh Nelson and Alexis Goynes also contributed with clutch hits in the win.
