Five runs batted in from Sydney Johnson helped lead the Panther Softball team past Pleasant Grove 11-3 on Friday night in Texarkana. Johnson drove in runs on a double in the first and a home run in the sixth. This was the season opener for Panther Softball after having the game with Waskom cancelled due to rain.
An early lead helped propel Spring Hill to victory. The Panthers scored on a double by Johnson on a 2-0 count in the first inning, scoring two runs, an error in the same inning, a single by Harleigh Nelson in the first, a triple by Caton Hawkins in the second, and a single by Maddie Malloy in the second inning.
Kaylin McWhorter earned the win in the circle. She went seven innings, allowing three runs, six hits, striking out ten, and walking zero.
The Panthers collected ten hits. Hawkins, Johnson, and Malloy each had multiple hits.
Basketball playoffs have moved up the scheduled game with Tatum to Monday, February 20 with the JV starting at 4:30 and the varsity starting at 6:00 (weather permitting). Should the games be called due to rain, the plan is to have the varsity game only on Tuesday, February 21 at 4 or 4:30 (again weather permitting).
